Paradise City

Yesterday’s sunset found all six of us buckled up in the minivan driving back to Nana’s house after a long day trip to San Diego. Andy and Kate were exhausted and wanted to sit back, relax and watch Disc Three of Life (a BBC documentary–same makers as Planet Earth.) Tuckered out as well, I was completely amenable to that request.

Paul, on the other hand, opened the sunroof and cranked the tunes, drowning out our pleas for sanctum. That’s when Luke declared,

“Shut the TV and let’s rock out!!”

Well, in the true spirit of rock ‘n roll, the decibels doubled and soon we were blazing up the I-5 with the stunning Pacific on our left, all hollering along to Axel Rose’s immortal words,

“Take me down to the Paradise City where the grass is green and the girls are pretty! Take! Me! Ho-ome! Ya, ya!!”

Ah, it’s good to be home.

(By the way, we had a great time in San Diego. We went to the Birch Aquarium in La Jolla and then to the Mormon Batallion Visitor’s Center in Old Town San Diego. Both sites were a ten! Here are some photos from the trip:)

These are our 19th century serious faces.

Panning for gold at the Visitor's Center.

Just another day in paradise.
